Ein Coin ist das native Asset seiner eigenen Chain — er bezahlt deren Transaktionsgebühren und entsteht nach den Regeln der Chain selbst, die sich nur ändern, wenn sich das Netzwerk ändert. Ein Token ist ein Eintrag in einem Smart Contract, der auf der Chain eines anderen ausgebracht wurde, und sein Verhalten ist das, was der Code dieses Vertrags sagt. Daraus folgen unmittelbar drei Dinge. Einen Token zu bewegen kostet weiterhin eine Gebühr, die im Coin der Host-Chain zu zahlen ist; man kann also durchaus einen Token halten und ihn nicht bewegen können, weil man keinen Coin hat. Die Regeln eines Tokens können Ausgabe, Pausieren, Sperrlisten oder eine Transfergebühr umfassen — nichts davon gilt für den nativen Coin einer Chain.
