Sie entstand 2021 als Antwort auf ein offensichtliches Problem: Mit Token-Belohnungen gemietete Liquidität verschwindet in dem Moment, in dem die Belohnungen enden oder anderswo eine bessere Rendite auftaucht, sodass ein Protokoll jahrelang viel für Anreize ausgeben konnte und dennoch einen Markt hatte, der sich an dem Tag auflöste, an dem es sparte. Die Position selbst zu besitzen macht die Tiefe dauerhaft, wie es gemietete Tiefe nie ist, und die Handelsgebühren fließen der Kasse zu statt Söldnerkapital. Das Verfahren, das dies bekannt machte, war Bonding — der Verkauf vergünstigter Token gegen Liquiditätspool-Token oder Reservewerte —, was wiederkehrende Emissionskosten in eine einmalige Verwässerung verwandelt. Zwei ehrliche Grenzen gehören zur Beschreibung. Liquidität zu besitzen ist nicht dasselbe wie einen Kurs zu stützen: Die Kasse steht auf beiden Seiten eines Pools, ein Kursverfall des Tokens schrumpft also genau jene Kasse, die ihn abfedern sollte, und eine Kasse, die überwiegend den eigenen Token hält, ist eher zirkulär als solide. Und dauerhafte Tiefe nützt nur so viel wie die Nachfrage, der sie dient; ein Pool, gegen den niemand handelt, erzeugt keine Gebühren, gleich wem er gehört.
