Blind Signing
walletsWhat blind signing means, why unreadable transaction data is how many wallet drainer scams work, and how clear signing reduces the risk.
Definition
Blind signing is approving a transaction whose contents your wallet cannot fully decode, so you confirm a block of raw data instead of a readable summary of what will happen. It is common on hardware devices with limited screens when interacting with complex smart contracts, and it is how many drainer scams succeed: the prompt looks routine while the payload grants an unlimited token allowance or transfers an asset. Safer habits include enabling clear signing or contract data where the wallet supports it, keeping device firmware updated, checking the contract address against the site you are using, and treating any unexpected signature request as suspicious. Off-chain message signatures such as permits can also move funds.
