Decentralized Oracle

infrastructure

A decentralized oracle sources on-chain data from many independent reporters, so no single operator controls what smart contracts see.

Definition

A decentralized oracle brings external data on-chain without any single operator deciding what that data says. Instead of one server signing a price, many independent participants report, and the contract accepts an aggregate such as a median, usually backed by staking or reputation so misreporting carries a cost. The goal is to remove the single point of failure created by a centralised feed, where one compromised key, outage or business decision could break every protocol relying on it. Decentralisation is a spectrum rather than a switch: the practical questions are how many operators there are, who runs them, whether their underlying data sources overlap, and who can upgrade or pause the feed. Those answers define the trust that actually remains.
