Fiat Off-Ramp
DeFiA fiat off-ramp converts crypto back into bank money or cash, with identity checks, source-of-funds questions, limits and local rules.
Definition
A fiat off-ramp is the reverse of an on-ramp: a service that converts crypto back into government-issued money paid to a bank account, card, or cash agent. Off-ramps normally require completed identity verification and often ask about the source of funds, since banks apply anti-money-laundering rules to incoming crypto proceeds. Payouts can be delayed or returned at the banking stage, and accounts are sometimes frozen while checks are carried out. Availability, limits, and fees depend heavily on the country and the local banking partner, and tax reporting obligations often attach at this step. Off-ramp friction is a common reason a portfolio that looks liquid on-chain is slower and more expensive to spend in practice.
