Genesis Address

A genesis address is an address that appears in a blockchain's very first block, the genesis block, most famously the address credited with Bitcoin's first 50-coin reward, which by a quirk of the original code cannot be spent. More loosely, people use the term for addresses created at launch to hold a premined or genesis allocation, such as a foundation treasury or early-investor supply. Those balances matter when reading tokenomics: a large genesis allocation concentrated in a few addresses tells you supply is not as distributed as a circulating-supply figure implies. Block explorers let you inspect any genesis address and its transaction history, which is a basic step in checking how a project's initial distribution actually happened.
