Giveaway Scam

A giveaway scam promises to send back more than it receives — a stream, post or message claiming that anyone who transfers an amount to a stated address will get a multiple of it in return. It is durable because it inverts the usual instinct: the victim is not asked for a key or a password, only to send from their own wallet, which feels like an ordinary transaction under their own control. The credibility comes from staging rather than from anything technical: a hijacked or impersonated account, a rebroadcast of old footage of a public figure, a synthesised voice, and replies from accounts that exist to say it worked. The defining feature is the one that never changes and needs no expertise to spot — a genuine distribution never requires an inbound payment first, and a transfer sent on that promise is final.
