Fake Wallet App

A fake wallet app is an impostor listing in an application store or download page that copies a real wallet's name, icon and screenshots, and exists to capture a recovery phrase. The behaviour is usually the same: the app looks ordinary until setup, then asks the user to import an existing wallet, and the phrase is transmitted the moment it is entered. Some variants display a plausible balance afterwards so nothing seems wrong until a withdrawal is attempted. Store review does not reliably prevent it, because listings can be updated after approval, developer accounts can be sold or compromised, and a fake can be published faster than a report is processed — which is why install counts and review scores describe a listing's past rather than the code being downloaded now. The defence is to reach the download by a route you established, taking the project's address from documentation you already trusted rather than from a search result, an advertisement or a message.
