NFT Royalties

Fundamentos

NFT royalties are the creator's share of secondary sales, declared in a contract but usually enforced by marketplaces rather than the blockchain.

Definição

NFT royalties are a share of each secondary sale that a collection's creator is meant to receive when a token changes hands again. The percentage is usually declared in the contract or in a metadata field, and the ERC-2981 standard gives marketplaces a common way to look it up. The important limitation is that most royalties are not enforced by the blockchain itself. A token can be transferred without any payment, so it is the marketplace that decides whether to honour the fee. When several platforms made royalties optional, creator income on many collections fell sharply, and some projects responded with transfer restrictions or allow-listed marketplaces. Treat an advertised royalty rate as a marketplace policy rather than a guaranteed payment.
