Delisting

Trading & Markets

Delisting is when an exchange removes a pair or asset from trading, with staged deadlines for trading, deposits and final withdrawals.

Definition

Delisting is the removal of a trading pair or an entire asset from an exchange, ending the ability to buy and sell it there. Venues cite reasons such as persistently low liquidity or volume, an unresponsive or abandoned development team, regulatory constraints in markets they serve, security incidents, or failure to meet ongoing listing standards. The process is normally announced ahead of time and runs in stages: trading closes first, then deposits, then withdrawals after a grace period. Holders who miss the withdrawal deadline may have to rely on a support process to recover the asset, and some platforms convert leftover balances. Delisting removes access on that venue but does not change the token's existence on its blockchain.
