Market Order

Trading & Markets

A market order fills immediately at the best available prices in the order book, trading price certainty for speed and accepting possible slippage.

Definition

A market order is an instruction to buy or sell a crypto asset immediately at the best prices currently available in the order book. It prioritises speed and certainty of execution over price: the exchange matches your order against resting limit orders, walking up or down the book until the full size is filled. That means the average price you receive can differ from the last traded price, an effect known as slippage, and the gap widens in thin or fast-moving markets. Market orders remove liquidity from the book, so they are usually charged the higher taker fee. Many traders size them carefully or split them to limit market impact.
