WalletConnect

wallets

An open protocol linking a wallet to an app without moving keys. Connecting is not spending — every action still needs a signature.

Definition

WalletConnect is an open protocol that links a wallet to an application without the wallet's keys ever leaving the device. A session starts by scanning a QR code or following a deep link, after which the application sends requests — connect, sign this message, sign this transaction — and the wallet displays each one for approval. The keys never travel; only the request and the resulting signature do. Two things are worth understanding. First, connecting is not spending: a connection grants read access to your address, and every action still needs a separate signature. Second, an active session persists until it is ended, so a site connected weeks ago can still prompt you. Reviewing what a request actually does before approving, and disconnecting sessions you no longer use, are the two habits the protocol expects of the user.
